The ingredient chooser is part of a gamified dinner party tradition with friends.
In the past the chefs would draw an ingredient and a course (entree, main, dessert) from a hat. Each person would do a different course, and all courses had to make use of that theme ingredient.
With the ingredient chooser, each chef gets login details. In the first stage each chef can submit a list of up to 10 candidate ingredients.
Chefs can edit their ingredient list until a countdown timer elapses, at which point the selections are fixed. The Ingredient Chooser compiles the ingredient lists from all chefs and selects 3 at random. It also allocates each chef to a course at random (i.e. entree, main, dessert, or drinks).
Each chef gets 5 vetos, and can use these to re-shuffle individual ingredients or course assignments. Each veto resets the second-stage countdown to 24 hours. When 24 hours has elapsed without any vetos, the ingredients and courses are locked-in.
Then... a dinner party.
